Change is coming: the online version of some major newspapers in France (L'Express, Le Figaro, etc.) are hiring junior journalists as "community managers". Their main task is to connect with their readers through Twitter, Facebook and the like... I agree that if this becomes just the old model of CRM then the value of these types of interactions will be minimized. However, I think the point is more to build a community which includes the full spectrum of user types. When you can get your friend...

I like your thoughts on this, and I would like to read the book that you are writing on it. That said, it might just be that the massive social change that is occurring at a global scale is actually something else. But what is this global social change about?
At this point I am more than skeptical of the vocabulary used in corporate and state governance, it is just so very limiting! What does it mean to say that something is of strategic development value? What is it that the UN is really doing?
I like facts and figures as much as the next guy, but really, what is this about? Do tell me? Where is humanity headed?
In the long range, we are all headed to dust, but meanwhile we might as well make the adventure worthwhile in this very virtual and fictional world of ours.
Yes, it is about information, logistics and this bit of social agency.
Keep the flow going, will you?

Questioning, maybe, but do you seriously think people are so smart today? Nobody has a basic classical, liberal education and nobody reads. In fact, the very type of literature that used to be society's driving force, short fiction and poetry, itself is basically extinct, even writers admit they can't support themselves by doing it. We have tech news, gossip, editorials and tid bits, but where on the Web can we find literature? (On a large commercial site that's read by "real people," I mean.)
